Practice your Portuguese while enjoying Rio's wonderful places

Brazil Ahead offers unique guided visits of Rio de Janeiro and surrounding areas. Your bilingual guide (his English has been honed by several visits to New York), Marcelo Garcez, is a Rio native who loves to introduce visitors to the endless charms of this enchanting destination. Besides the iconic attractions – Sugarloaf, Corcovado, Copacabana – Marcelo will take you to fascinating places off the beaten path.

Depending on your interests you can focus on cultural treasures, such as the Oscar Niemeyer-designed Museum of Contemporary Art in Niteroi (pictured above), hiking in the Atlantic forest national park to the west or along the rugged coast to the north of Rio, relax in the quaint fishing villages of Búzios and Cabo Frio with breathtaking mountains dipping into the shores, or shop in the posh Barra da Tijuca. After dark, Marcelo will be delighted to take you to the finest restaurants, bars and samba shows in town, especially those favored by locals.

Our guide will take you to all those places and make sure Portuguese is spoken most of the time during your visit. Our goal is to encourage students to use what they have learned while dealing with various real life situations.

Price: Daily rate - $160 (8 hours, with car, at your disposal) + expenses (gas, tolls, meals, entrance fees). You can use e.g., 4 hours in the morning and 4 hours at night.
